Stardock Start8 is a program that enables you to customize the Windows 8 start menu. It can be installed alongside Windows 8 in a dual-boot setup, or it can be installed on any previous version of Windows so that the menus from previous versions of Windows are available when running an up-to-date operating system. Start8 comes with several skins and themes so users can customize their start menu to fit their taste and needs. In addition, Stardock offers custom skins for users who need more extensive customization options. Finally, Start8 features Win+, which gives desktop access to all the programs and shortcuts on your taskbar or pinned at the bottom of your screen by clicking Win+D (by default). The original version of Start8 was released as "Stardock Start8 1.20" on July 22, 2012 and was initially available through Stardock's Download site. Stardock has released several major upgrades for Start8 since its original release: As of April 2014, the following skins and themes are available:The Stardock Start8 skin can be purchased from Stardock's store. "Plop Andy", a skin that works with Windows XP and later that adds other features such as a taskbar entry for Internet Explorer, is available via free download from Stardock or as part of the CandyBar 9.6 (Stardock) software suite (via the BigSpin app). Other skins are also available for free, but are not maintained by Stardock. Stardock Start8 can be purchased via Stardock's online store for $4.99. There is a free 14-day trial version available for download at Start8's website. Stardock Start8 was reviewed by "Tech Radar" in November 2012, who gave it 4 stars out of 5. Start8 has received the following awards: Start8 has been disqualified from some competitions, such as "PCMAG"'s "Best of 2012 Awards", as it is an unsupported application and therefore does not qualify as a true Windows 8 application.
